RAD aims to develop the value of space.


私たちRADは「建築の居場所（Architectural Domain）」に関するリサーチ活動を行うインディペンデントな組織です。私たちを取り巻く日常を建築や都市という観点から眺めなおし、そこから逆に「建築」の輪郭線をなぞり、様々なプロジェクトを通してそのプロセスを表現します。

RAD is an independent organization for researching for architectural domain. We look again our everyday life in the light of architecture and city, try to figure out what "architecture" is, and express these process through various projects.


私たちの日常としての建築 architecture as our everyday life
私たちにとってのデザインとは、日常のかげに隠れて見えづらくなっている、ありふれた物事の新たな姿を見いだすことです。そして建築もまたそのようにあるとよいと思い、私たちはそれをリサーチと呼んでいます。ある空間の形や性質を変えていくことは、その空間がそれまで持っていた価値観や意味が変化していくことに繋がるでしょう。あるいはその逆も。そのようにして、私たちは空間の価値をディベロップしていきたいと考えています。

For us DESIGN is to figure out new aspect of commonplace that hides behind the everyday affairs. So is our RESEARCH. To change the spaces' forms and natures is to be change the meanings that the spaces have had. And vice versa. Thus we want to develop the value of space.


建設のためだけではない建築 architecture, not always for construction
既存の価値観や意味を想像力と共に読み替えていくことによって、周りの世界は私たちに新たな姿を現します。私たちが伝えたいことは、世界をつくりかえるために必ずしも「建設」を必要とはしない、という当たり前のことです。私たちの日常を建築的思考と共に眺め、そこから建築を、建築の居場所を、つまり「建築」と呼ばれるシステムの成り立ちを、問うてみたい。重要なのは、あるプロダクトに落とし込まれたその思考の帰結ではなく、むしろその思考のあり方です。ゆえにRADは「リサーチ」そのものに重きを置くのです。

When we read again with imagination the existing values and meanings, the world surrounding us will appear the new figure. This, we think, is also the important design. What we want to tell is simply that you don't always have to CONSTRUCT something to re-create the world. With architectural though we think our everyday life, and thus question architecture and its domain, or the organization of the system called ARCHITECTURE. What to us is important is not the result of the thought, but the process of it. That is why we put stress on RESEARCH itself.
